CFA crews from Bendigo were called to the blazes at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in North Bendigo just after 10:00 this evening after a passing police patrol noticed flames coming from a garbage bin. By the time firefigters arrived, one of the fires had spread to a neighboring pavilion, causing moderate damage, and additional units from Eaglehawk were requested. Firefighters wearing breatinh apparatus entered the building and took about half an hour to extinguish the fires. Witnesses report hearing explosions and seeing children in the area at the time of the fires. Police investigations are continuing.
